QUEST FOR THE PERFECT FLASHLIGHT
SureFire's 9P

To date, I have owned three flashlights that were made by SureFire - a 9P, a M2 Centurion, and a Millennium M510A. These flashlights have always worked when needed and you can detect the quality as soon as you pick one up. Did I mention that I like their products???

The first SureFire I bought was a 9P. I bought it on my way to California for my first class with FrontSight. I wasn't sure if my Scorpion would cut it and wanted to make sure I had the best light available. I bought the 9P as opposed to the 6P because I planned to eventually mount it on my rifle and wanted the extra lumens. The light worked perfectly for the class but as I began to investigate the rifle mounting options, the Millenniums were released. I also found out that you shouldn't use this line of flashlights for weapon mounting anyway.

I learned a lot from this purchase. For instance, I thought that the 9P could replace the Scorpion as a backup light but I found it to be too large and finding the correct carrier (cordovon leather) wasn't easy. I advise anybody purchasing a carry flashlight to really think about whether you REALLY need one of the 9 volt lights. They are more difficult to carry comfortably and the 6 volt lights are plenty bright - especially with the new optional high output lamps. I also learned that a lock-out tail cap is very desirable if not mandatory - don't ask me how I found out.
