QUEST FOR THE PERFECT FLASHLIGHT
The SureFire Millennium M510A

Just as it is essential to have a flashlight designed for use with a firearm when using your handgun, it is just as necessary to have a light on any long gun you plan to use to defend yourself or others. Using a flashlight with a long gun introduces a whole new set of problems that are best solved by using a light DESIGNED to be mounted on a weapon. There are several companies, SureFire being the most prominent, that make weapon mounted lights. I only have experience with SureFire's designs, their shotgun and rifle solutions, and can't comment on the others.

I actually own the M510A and have it mounted on my duty rifle. The typical reaction to the Millennium series relates to the cost of the light - they are not inexpensive, especially if your purchasing them yourself. However, I can assure you, that should you ever REALLY NEED one, there is no price you won't be willing to pay. (Mine was bought the morning after such a convincing event)

As is typical of the SureFire line, the light is very well designed. For starters, the light is completely integrated with all wires and switches thoroughly contained in the hand guards. Its switching system is excellent, providing a cut-off feature, constant-on mode, and a momentary mode, all in a easily controlled manner.
