THE PEPPER POPPER

Image from BlackWaterTargets.Com
I have shot on a variety of pepper poppers and I can't comment on one maker's target as opposed to another. The popper is a good general target, rougly simulating a bad guy crouching. There are only two bad aspects of the pepper popper. First is that poor hits are sometimes rewarded. Especially with larger calibers, a hit well below the large circle may cause the target to fall. I don't know of anyway to fix this since setting the "fall" of the target too high would mean that minor calibers will barely work at all. The other drawback is that these targets are pretty heavy. I don't know of many people that own and transport a bunch of these around - they seem to be more of a club thing.

Hopefully we all know what a pepper popper is so allow me to offer the following suggestion:
Take a short piece of furring strip and strap it, using duct tape, to the back of the pepper popper at the top of the circle. Next, place an old t-shirt over the target and make sure the furring strips protudes out of the arm holes of the shirt. This will make the target far more humanoid and enforce the need to shoot for high center of mass. If you do this, make sure you have a large number of t-shirts available since lead splatter will chew them up quickly. (Sorry, no image yet, I'm working on it)
