When people start shooting regularly, they tend to accumulate gadgets, gizmos, and junk that is supposed to help them shoot better. I am convinced that the sole reason gun magazines exist is to sell crap that doesn't work or we don't really need. I'm also convinced that many of the people who write for gun magazines are whores. That's right - WHORES. What is a whore - someone that takes money for services of a lewd nature. I can think of nothing more lewd than singing the praises of some piece of gear that you never tried or you know doesn't work knowing that people will spend their hard earned money on it.
My goal in this section is to offer suggestions about what equipment you really need to improve your shooting skills, what's nice or convenient to have, and what is junk. I too had accumulated a bunch of crap that I really didn't need. For better or worse, someone broke into my storage unit and stole a huge crate full of gun crap I didn't use. I almost wish it hadn't been stolen so I would be reminded what didn't work but like I said, I really haven't missed any of it.
Before I start, let me offer one final caveat. I spent most of the last ten years living like a college student/Seasonal Park Ranger. This has instilled in me, a certain frugality(some would call this being cheap, but I prefer frugal). For this reason, I'm very sensitive about paying more than I have to. Along the way, I'll also mention some of the things I've done to save money in case you're cheap too.
